Sir Alex Ferguson Issues Positive Verdict On 3 Of Man Utd’s Summer Signings

Man Utd icon Sir Alex Ferguson says that his former club made some good acquisitions in the summer transfer window.

The Scot was particularly keen to highlight the signing of Senne Lammens, but he was also positive about the arrivals of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha:

“I think the appointment of the goalkeeper [Lammens] has made a difference. He’s young at 23, he’s quick, a big lad, good feet and hands, and I think that helps.”

“I think they have needed that player. United have always had inspirational players over the years. I think that has helped. The other two, Mbeumo and Cunha, they look as if they will contribute to the recovery of our form.”

How has Lammens performed so far?

While Ferguson seems to be quite enamoured with the Belgian, it is fair to say that it has been a mixed start to his Old Trafford career.

Lammens has kept just one clean sheet and conceded 15 goals in 10 appearances. His save ratio is 63.2%, which is among the worst in the league. However, his shot-stopping is pretty decent, with his post-shot xG conceded comparing favourably to his goal conceded total (+0.5).

Mbeumo and Cunha’s goal contributions for Man Utd

Most would say that Mbeumo is the pick of the summer additions so far, and the Cameroon international’s stats do back that up, having scored 7 goals and provided 1 assist in 17 appearances since his move from Brentford.

Cunha has caught the eye with his ability on the ball, but some improvement is needed in front of goal. The Brazilian has only found the net twice in 14 games, while he has created just one goal for a teammate.

All three additions have definitely shown promising signs but fans will hope there is more to come from them.
