Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim claims Aston Villa are capable of sustaining a Premier League title bid this season.

Only Manchester City have won more home Premier League points than Villa in 2025, while Unai Emery’s side have lost the fewest home games of any ever-present team.

If they avoid defeat against United on Sunday, it will mark their fewest home top-flight losses in a year since 1983, when they lost just one of 22 games.

Villa have won their last nine home matches in a row and are targeting a 10th victory against the Red Devils - an achievement that would mark Emery’s second streak of nine-plus home wins at Villa Park. Only George Ramsay has achieved more than one run of 10 consecutive home victories.

However, United will not be an easy opponent. Villa have won just one of their last 26 Premier League home games against them, a 3-1 victory in November 2022, which was Emery’s first match in charge.

Ahead of Sunday’s meeting, Amorim was asked whether Villa are genuine title contenders, given their remarkable form over the last three months, which ranks among the best in Europe.

"Everything can happen. I think they have a manager with a lot of experience,” Amorim said.

“You can see when you watch Villa play, you can sense it's a very mature team. Understands, [Emery] doesn't panic when he's losing.

“He doesn't feel overwhelmed when he's winning, he can control the emotion all the time.

“I think they are a very strong team, if they are going to fight until the end [for the title]? I don't know. But they are capable of that."
