Marcus Rashford faces fresh hurdle to secure Barcelona deal, former Man Utd target could prevent dream move

Barcelona have the option to sign Marcus Rashford permanently in the summer, with the England international not expected to play for Manchester United again.

Marcus Rashford has been in the headlines for the right reasons since moving from Manchester United to Barcelona on loan in July.

It was considered a dream move by Rashford, who has repeatedly stated that he wants to remain at Camp Nou when the temporary deal concludes at the end of the season.

Rashford has seven goals and registered 11 assists for Barcelona this season, placing him among their best-performing players, alongside top scorer Ferran Torres. His most recent goal came in a 2-0 win over Guadalajara on Wednesday.

Barcelona are currently leading the way in La Liga, four points clear of rivals Real Madrid, so they’re in a strong position to motivate Rashford towards winning his first-ever domestic league title.

That would be a milestone moment for Rashford as it would secure a permanent deal at Barcelona.

Barcelona stance on Marcus Rashford transfer

Barcelona are increasingly likely to sign Rashford when his loan deal expires, but the United loanee is still under pressure to prove his worth to the team.

The loan deal includes an option for Barcelona to sign Rashford for a mere £26 million, which is cheap considering Rashford has two years left to run on his contract at Old Trafford.

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Camp Nou chiefs want to see how Rashford fares competing with Raphinha for a place in the team during the second half of the season.

Raphinha, who was previously linked with a move to United, has made 13 appearances this season but also had to deal with a long lay-off due to a hamstring injury.

With Rashford predominantly playing on the left flank of Barcelona’s attack, it remains to be seen if Raphinha will push for a place in that role or if Hansi Flick will continue to utilise the Brazilian as a No.10.

Meanwhile, reports in Germany suggest that Barcelona want to extend Flick’s contract beyond 2027.

It is understood that a new contract for Flick would likely mean that Rashford will be given a deal since the German is a big admirer of the forward.

Flick has hinted at a permanent deal for Rashford in the past, too.

Marcus Rashford gears up for final game before winter break

Unlike the Premier League, La Liga takes a break in the winter to give each player a chance to recharge over the festive period.

That will be one of the biggest differences Rashford will experience in Spain because the only winter break he experienced in the past came when the World Cup took place in Qatar three years ago.

So, Barcelona will play their last game before the winter break against third-placed Villarreal.

Rashford will be hoping to add to his tally of goals and assists.
