Paolo Di Canio jumps to defence of West Ham player – Backs transfer plan

On Sunday, Niccolo Ceccarini reiterated Guido Rodriguez intention to leave West Ham, something which has also been mentioned in Spain and Argentina.

Juventus are interested, with the Italian side having first made contact some weeks ago. There is belief that a move can happen this month.

Considering Rodriguez’s struggles at West Ham, a switch to the Bianconeri would come as a surprise to many. Even if Juve need a midfielder, the Argentine has barely made a mark in London.

A defence for the 31-year-old has arrived from ex-Hammer Paolo Di Canio.

The Italian spoke to Sky Calcio Club about Juve’s January business. Rodriguez’s situation at West Ham was also a topic of conversation.

He said – relayed by JuventusNews24: “I hope he comes here and does well if Juve wants him, does what’s best for Juve, but Juve, who need to strengthen and want to solve their midfield problem, will have a player, 31 years old, a world champion, 26 appearances in a year and a half.”

West Ham failure not all down to player

Di Canio further said that West Ham instability is a reason for Rodriguiez’s problems.

“He arrived in a team that unfortunately struggles. You saw him. He’s very thin, a bit like Locatelli, a technician, but skinny, a bit light. Technically good, yes, but not Pirlo. He’s an extra organising midfielder. Maybe they want him to have another one there.”

Di Canio believes Rodriguez has felt the impact of West Ham’s lack of planning. This is because he was signed under Julen Lopetegui and played regularly under the Spaniard.

After Graham Potter’s arrival, the Argentine’s prominence at the club reduced. A similar pattern has followed under Nuno Espirito Santo.

That is why a move to Juve could present a fresh start for the Argentine. It will help him show his quality at the highest level and potentially allow him to impress enough to play at the World Cup.
