Newcastle United boardroom departure made official in farewell message.

Peter Silverstone has officially left Newcastle United and joined Italian giants Juventus as their Chief Business Officer.

NewcastleWorld broke the news in November that Silverstone had become the first major departure under new Chief Executive Officer David Hopkinson after being placed on gardening leave ahead of taking up a new job overseas.

Silverstone spent just over three years as the Magpies’ Chief Commercial Officer, a role he held previously at Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Peter Silverstone posts lengthy message after leaving Newcastle United

Silverstone detailed his achievements at Newcastle in a LinkedIn post last week before announcing his new role at Juventus on Wednesday evening.

“My final day at Newcastle United Football Club - and I want to say a sincere thank you to the club, the city, and the people who make it what it is,” Silverstone wrote.

“I’m especially grateful to Darren Eales for hiring me and then backing me with unwavering trust from day one. His clarity, intellect, energy and humour set the tone: roll sleeves up, deliver, and enjoy the journey. I learned a huge amount from such an inspirational leader.

“Over the last three years, together we delivered a real step-change across the commercial platform and the wider club journey, including:

“- A return of Champions League nights and a first domestic trophy in 70 years (led by Eddie Howe, Jason Tindall and their great team)

“- ~130% commercial revenue growth

“- A strengthened partner roster (with standout impact from Sela | صلة, adidas, Fenwick, and many others)

“- International tours across the USA, Australia, Japan, Korea & Singapore — growing reach while driving revenue and profitability

“- Material upgrades to fan experience and hospitality (St. James’ Stack, Rooftops & Wings)

“- A full rebuild of Retail & Licensing delivering significant commercial uplift

“- A Women's Championship record attendance of 38,502 at the derby clash vs. Sunderland- Exceptional growth of the Mags Membership proposition

“What I’m most proud of, though, is how we did it: in a values-led way. Newcastle United’s culture is built on Family - United As One - powered by Hard Work, Passion, Collaboration and Discipline.

“One city. United. (thanks to the city stakeholders who supported including Jenny Hartley MBE, Michelle Percy FRICS, Dr Sarah Green OBE, Pam Smith)

“The team legacy matters most. We scaled the Commercial function from ~50 to almost 200 people with a continued focus on communication and collaboration.

“To my direct reports — Yvette Thompson, Dan Ginger, Jonathan Kane, Simon Lilley, Susan Byrne (nee Allen), Daisy May Cockbain, - thank you for the trust, leadership and delivery (and for surviving my font-size obsession 🤣).

“To our Commercial Heads of Department — Chris P., Colin Perkins, Craig Oliver, Dale Aitchison, Daniel Riad, Georgie Simmons, Jessica Luther, Matt Cadwallender, Lauren Cross, Jonny E., Kenneth M., Sarah Medcalf, Simon Meehan, Leigh Simpson, Leigh Peacock-Goodwin, Phillip Porter, Natalie Raine, Brett McGoldrick, - you were all brilliant. I wish you all incredible future career success.

“To my fellow Executive Team and SMT members (past and present) - Dan Ashworth, Simon Capper, Brad Miller, Paul Mitchell, Ross Wilson, John Staunton Sykes, Dominica O'Neil, Claire Alexander, James Bunce, Paul Catterson, John Devine, Steve Harper, Richie Hines, Lee Marshall, Steve Nickson, Eddie Rutherford - thank you for being great colleagues. The club is in excellent hands under you and the drive and leadership of David Hopkinson.

“Newcastle is a rare place - where club and community are inseparable. I’ll always be grateful for what we achieved together. Grazie e arrivederci. HWTL 🖤🤍”

Peter Silverstone was a somewhat controversial figure among Newcastle United fans

Silverstone was a somewhat controversial figure among supporters. Under his tenure, Newcastle secured a club-record kit deal with Adidas, as well as other sponsorship deals such as Sela and Fenwick.

However, many fans have pointed the finger at Silverstone for a lack of major progress when it comes to commercial partnerships being forged for the likes of the club’s training kit and beyond.

There had also been a growing sense of frustration over ticketing with increased corporate seating and tickets being sold through third-party websites.
