Bid made: Man Utd in talks over five-year deal to sign 'star in the making' - report

Manchester United are in talks with RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande over personal terms ahead of a move to Old Trafford, according to Caught Offside.

The Red Devils spent over £200m in the summer to add Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko to their attacking lineup, but with Ruben Amorim being sacked and the club seemingly moving back towards a system with a back four, there is interest in adding more wide options to the squad.

One man who has emerged as a top target is Leipzig star Diomande, and while the Bundesliga outfit don't want to sell any time soon, that hasn't stopped talks taking place.

Man Utd Hold Personal Terms Talks With DiomandeYan Diomande

Reports have suggested that Manchester United have already made an offer for Diomande, but RB Leipzig have made it clear that a January sale is not on the table. Leipzig are understood to value the 19-year-old at close to £87m, despite claims that he could be available for as little as £50m.

Leipzig’s leverage is strengthened by Diomande’s contract situation, with more than four years remaining on his deal, as he only arrived from Leganes last summer in a deal worth £17m.

It has now been reported, however, that the Bundesliga side have allowed initial exploratory talks between interested clubs and the player to take place ahead of a potential summer sale, and it's understood that Man Utd are willing to table a five-year contract, with the option of an extra 12 months. The deal would see Diomande earn around £3m net per year, which is around £57,000-a-week.

It's unclear where Diomande will end up, with strong interest from a host of Europe's top clubs including Liverpool, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, and Tottenham.

Why Diomande Appeals to Manchester United

Yan Diomande

From United’s perspective, Diomande represents exactly the profile the club are targeting. He is explosive, fearless in one-v-one situations and already delivering output at elite level, registering 11 goal contributions this season.

Crucially, he also offers something United currently lack: a true wide threat capable of destabilising defences rather than simply recycling possession.

With system flexibility expected to be a major theme moving forward, wide players who can operate in multiple shapes are becoming non-negotiable. Diomande’s ability to stretch play, attack defenders directly and create space for others fits perfectly with the tactical preferences of several managerial candidates linked with the club, and has seen him described as a 'star in the making'.

While United have already invested heavily in attacking options, Diomande is viewed internally as a potential difference-maker rather than a luxury addition. Leipzig fully expect the race for Diomande to intensify in the summer, when financial restrictions ease and Champions League qualification clarifies spending power. United’s early move is seen as strategic positioning rather than an expectation of an immediate breakthrough.

Unless one club is prepared to shatter Leipzig’s valuation this month, Diomande’s future will be decided later in the year - in what is shaping up to be a blockbuster battle between Europe’s elite. For United, laying the groundwork now could prove decisive when the real fight begins.
