In recent months Mather has been playing for Manchester United’s under-21s, and occasionally training with the first team.

Sam Mather fee and sell-on clause

Sam Mather’s exit allows him to take the important next step in his career and have a real shot at playing first team football, with no opportunities opening up in Manchester United’s first team.

Manchester United will not receive a fee for Sam Mather, allowing the winger to depart on a free transfer, reports local outlet Kayseri Anadolu Haber.

United have added a stipulation into the agreement, inserting a 20 per cent sell-on clause for any future sale of Mather.

This is not uncommon for United’s approach with youth players.

In the summer United received £2 million for Maxi Oyedele after Strasbourg signed him from Legia Warsaw for £5.6 million.

United had originally sold Oyedele for just £500,000.

Time for Mather to move on

At 21-years-old Sam Mather needs to be playing first team football, not academy football, and he stayed at United at least 12 months too long. He signed a new contract at the club in 2024.

Mather has experience on two loan spells, playing in the National League for Rochdale and then Tranmere Rovers.

He was a key part of United’s 2022 FA Youth Cup winning team, but suffered with injuries in the 12 months that followed, and this knocked his promising trajectory off track.

This move to Turkey is an intriguing opportunity for the young winger, and one he will be determined to maximise.
