Manchester United are preparing a blockbuster move to sign Chelsea star Cole Palmer, according to reports.
The Old Trafford side are believed to have been alerted by Palmer’s potential availability on the market, with Chelsea open to selling the England international.
United have a long-standing admiration for Palmer and have reportedly held internal talks about launching a potential pursuit of the 23-year-old attacking midfielder.
The club are said to be viewing Palmer as a direct replacement for captain Bruno Fernandes, whose long-term future is unclear following Ruben Amorim’s sacking on Monday.

According to journalist Steve Kay, Palmer is open to the idea of leaving Chelsea amid a turbulent season for the Blues, with Liam Rosenior succeeding Enzo Maresca as head coach this week.
Although Chelsea have yet to place a specific price tag on the attacker, Kay claims that a deal could exceed the €100m mark, surpassing Man United’s record deal to sign Paul Pogba from Juventus in 2016.
It remains to be seen whether these suggestions have any truth in them, as Palmer, praised as ‘the best number 10 in the world’, continues to be a key player for Chelsea for a third year running.
The 23-year-old, who joined from Manchester City in the summer of 2023, has netted four goals in 12 appearances across all competitions this season, which has been heavily disrupted by injuries so far.
Palmer was forced to miss two months of action before returning to the squad in late November. Chelsea have endured a particularly disappointing run of results since his return, winning just one of their nine Premier League games.
