Eddie Howe shamefully told to leave Newcastle United and join Manchester United

Newcastle United 4-3 Leeds United

It was not so long ago when Manchester United supporters were turning their noses up at the thought of Eddie Howe.

Former Sunderland boss Roy Keane has backed Eddie Howe to become the next Manchester United manager.

As one of the Red Devils’ all-time greats, the Irishman has been weighing in on the managerial situation at Old Trafford. Man United pulled the trigger on Ruben Amorim following his post-match outburst last weekend.

Having called out the board and ex-players, his position was deemed untenable and it is understood they are wanting to make a short-term appointment for the rest of the season. It is then thought that the Red Devils will move for a permanent figure in the summer.

Roy Keane wants Eddie Howe

Speaking to Sky Sports, Keane named Howe as the man he would like to take the job. He said: “If it’s until the end of the season, I think Ole would do alright. Do I see Ole as the manager for the next four or five seasons, getting United back competing, then probably not.

“I'd go with Eddie Howe. I like him. I like what he's done. He's managed a lot of games. When his teams are at it, they'll play good football. He has his critics, but I like what he's done at Newcastle.

"He's managed seven or 800 games. He's still a young man. I love his calmness. Maybe Man United need a little bit of that.

"We've seen with our previous (appointments), we like people with emotions, but he's got that calmness. The job he's done at Newcastle, Champions League and winning a cup, I'd be happy to see him go in there."

Eddie Howe has given Manchester United answer

Earlier this week, Howe reaffirmed his commitment to Newcastle United when asked about potentially taking the Man United job. He told reporters: “Absolutely nothing has changed from my perspective,” Howe told reporters this morning. “I'm 100 per cent here working as hard as I can head down ignoring all the stuff that you guys write whether it's good or bad because it's irrelevant.

“That will never change from my perspective. I think my commitment to my work and my job as long as I'm happy and able to express myself in the best way that I can to help the team nothing will change.

“No, not at this current time (whether anything could tempt him away). As I said, I think that the most important thing for me is happiness in the role, happiness in the job and the relationships that I have with the people around me. That's not always been consistently good and things can change at any football club but, at the moment, I'm very happy.”
