Manchester United's transfer activity has been overshadowed by their hunt for a new manager. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick are currently the front-runners to take the reins until the season's end, at which point a fresh decision will be made.

Solskjaer, the club's former boss, is scheduled for discussions today and will meet with director of football Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada to talk about the role. Darren Fletcher will remain in charge for Sunday's FA Cup match against Brighton.

However, the transfer window waits for no one. Despite Ruben Amorim suggesting that United wouldn't be conducting much business this month prior to his dismissal, the Red Devils are never far from a new transfer rumour.

Marcus Rashford's loan spell at Barcelona may still have six months left, but his future is already a hot topic. The next steps for Kobbie Mainoo also need to be determined following Amorim's departure.

Is Rashford playing agent?

Ex-Barcelona midfielder Gaizka Mendieta suspects that Marcus Rashford could be helping to seal a move for Kobbie Mainoo to Barcelona. Mainoo has found game time hard to come by this season and has been consistently linked with a move away.

Ruben Amorim's departure could alter his plans, but Mendieta wouldn't be surprised if Mainoo and Rashford had been communicating. The Spaniard believes the United youngster would fit well into La Liga.

In a chat with BOYLE Sports, Mendieta pondered: "Could Kobbie Mainoo go abroad and be a success? We've seen it happen. Players can go abroad and it motivates them to be successful, Mainoo is an exciting young player and I think La Liga would really suit him.

"He might well have been in contact with Marcus Rashford about joining Barcelona. Who knows if they could play together again, as a football fan, I would be excited to see Mainoo in Spain."

Zirkzee's position

Joshua Zirkzee is reportedly keen to join Roma this month and is pushing for a move away from United despite the sacking of Ruben Amorim, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Italian publication suggests that Roma are ready to sign Zirkzee on loan from United, with a compulsory purchase clause of €38million (£33m) tied to Champions League qualification.

It's reported that directors from the Roman club continued discussions with Zirkzee's representatives on Thursday and are prepared to offer the former Bologna star a yearly salary of €3.5m (£3m) until 2030.

Loan approved.

Gabriele Biancheri has reportedly been given the go-ahead to leave United on loan this month, according to Football Insider. Biancheri, a product of Cardiff's youth system, has spent time training with United's first team this season.

The 19-year-old has now been informed that he can seek another club before the transfer window closes. A number of EFL clubs are said to have already expressed interest in the young player.
