"I've heard..." - Duncan Castles says 'world-class' Champions League winner wants Man Utd job…

Carlo Ancelotti would love the chance to become the Manchester United manager before he retires, according to journalist Duncan Castles on the Football Transfers podcast.

The Red Devils are currently managerless after making the decision to sack Ruben Amorim following 14 months in charge last week, with Darren Fletcher currently taking charge of the first-team while the club decide between Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick to become interim manager for the rest of the season.

But once that decision has been made, attention will turn to finding the next permanent manager, and a new contender could be set to enter the race ahead of the summer.

Ancelotti, who has been described as 'world-class' and is widely considered to be one of the best managers of all-time, is currently in charge of the Brazil national team ahead of next summer's World Cup, having left Real Madrid last year.

But the Italian has reportedly always been keen on the Manchester United role, and according to Castles, he even confided in some people about his ambition to be in charge at Old Trafford as far back as between 2009 and 2011 when he was the manager of rivals Chelsea.

"Carlo Ancelotti, I think is interesting, because Ancelotti, I heard a long time ago, in fact, when he was Chelsea coach, from someone close to him, that he has always coveted the Manchester United job and wanted an opportunity to do that before he retired."

The legendary coach's contract with Brazil is set to expire after the World Cup, which would in theory make him available to take over at Man Utd ahead of the next season should they be interested, with Castles admitting that he is someone on their list of candidates.

Ancelotti Would be Perfect Appointment

While Man Utd are looking to build for the future and develop a young squad to come through and peak together, they still have experience and need to be competing at the highest level.

Ancelotti is someone who has experience of doing all of those things, and it's fair to say that he is also one of the most adaptable managers of his time, playing in several different systems depending on which players he has at his disposal, while getting results.

That would be perfect for United, and considering he has five Champions League wins and six different league title wins throughout his career, he would bring an aura to the changing room that no other candidate could bring. If he's available and interested, then INEOS would be crazy not to take a good look at him.
