History was made in the FA Cup as Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace side had their defence of the trophy prematurely interrupted by sixth-tier side Macclesfield.
Oliver Glasner will leave Moss Rose red-faced after Crystal Palace suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of National League North outfit Macclesfield in the FA Cup third round.
The Austrian coach, who led Palace to FA Cup glory last season, has been linked with a move to Manchester United following Ruben Amorim’s sacking on Monday.
Perhaps these are early signs that Glasner, out of contract at Palace in the summer, may be taking his eyes off the ball.

Palace’s 2-1 defeat against Macclesfield will go down as one of the greatest results in the FA Cup this season, but they are not the only Premier League club that will feel they threw away a golden opportunity in the cup.
In August, United lost to Grimsby Town on penalties as they suffered elimination from the Carabao Cup second round. It was a result that tarnished Amorim’s reputation, which suffered more blows before he was dismissed on Monday.
It will go down as one of Amorim’s worst defeats because United were knocked out of the cup by League Two opposition.

Now, at a time when Glasner is trying to impress United, he suffers a similar blow with Palace.
Glasner will demand a response from his Palace players because he will want them to finish higher than their current position (13th) in the Premier League.
Wayne Rooney ‘proud’ of brother after Macclesfield’s win over Crystal Palace
United’s top scorer of all-time was quick to react to Macclesfield’s history-making win over Palace.
Macclesfield are managed by the former England international’s younger brother John Rooney.
Speaking on BBC One, Rooney said: “It’s incredible to see my younger brother achieve this, he has not long been the manager. I am so proud of him.”
Another interesting fact from the game is that Shea Lacey’s brother, Luis, started for Macclesfield at left-back.
Former United academy star D’Mani Mellor also played a starting role for Macclesfield.
