Manchester United star Toby Collyer is set to complete a loan move to Hull City despite being recalled earlier this month. The young midfielder spent the first-half of the season with second-tier side West Bromwich Albion.
But his spell at the Hawthorns was hampered by injuries, with the 22-year-old making just 12 appearances, only three of which were starts. The Red Devils announced earlier this month that Collyer was returning to Old Trafford.
A club statement read: “Manchester United have recalled young midfielder Toby Collyer from his loan spell at Championship club West Bromwich Albion. The 21-year-old Academy graduate joined the Baggies in August to gain valuable experience playing in the Football League.
It added: “A highly rated talent with a tremendous work ethic, Toby returns to United to focus on his recovery and perhaps bolster Ruben Amorim’s options in midfield.”
But it appears that Collyer could soon be on his way back to the Championship. As per the Hull Daily Mail, he is set to join Hull City on loan until the end of the season.
The Tigers sit seventh in the standings after an impressive start to the campaign. Hull take on Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers on Sunday in the FA Cup third round on Sunday - a game that is likely set to come too soon for Collyer.
Should a deal be agreed, his debut could indeed come next weekend against Southampton. Collyer is under contract with the Red Devils until 2027, having made 13 appearances in all for United so far.
Former boss Ruben Amorim had a bizarre response to Collyer’s talents when asked about a lack of exposure for academy graduates. He said: “He (Collyer) played (for the United first team). He’s from the academy. He played here. He went to West Bromwich. He’s not playing.

“He played for Manchester United. So sometimes it’s not because he’s from the academy or whatever. It’s the situation, what’s happened.”
United will likely take more decisions over members of their squad over the coming days once a new manager is appointed. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in talks over taking the job on an interim basis until the end of the campaign.
Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee are among the players linked with exits, Napoli and Roma interested in the duo. But they could instead be retained following Amorim’s exit.
