Man United have put the brakes on talks surrounding this player’s situation at Old Trafford
Manchester United have received enquiries about young midfielder Toby Collyer but the club are refusing to make any decision until a caretaker manager has been appointed.
A lot is up in the air at Old Trafford at the moment, following the recent sacking of Ruben Amorim. After his bombshell post-Leeds United press conference and a breakdown in relationship with director of football Jason Wilcox, the Portuguese coach was shown the door earlier this week.
Darren Fletcher has stepped in on an interim basis, until United appoint a caretaker manager to see them through the remainder of the season.
Man United delay sending Toby Collyer on loan
According to Fabrizio Romano, Hull City want to sign Collyer on loan until the end of the campaign. The Tigers are currently seventh in the Championship, with only goal difference separating them from the play-off bracket. There are five points between them and an automatic promotion spot, meaning it’s all systems go to fight for a place in the Premier League next season.
Hull are looking to add Collyer to their midfield ranks but United aren’t willing to discuss a deal until a decision is made on who will steer the ship between now and the summer.
“Hull City have asked Man United for Toby Collyer’s loan until the end of the current season. Approval to be delayed until Man United decide on caretaker manager,” Romano wrote on social media.
Collyer signed for West Brom on loan at the start of the season but injuries hampered his time at The Hawthorns and his last appearance came back in November. United then recalled the 22-year-old to continue his recovery at Carrington.
Since his return to the club, MEN Sport has reported that Collyer could be fit to return to action at the end of the month but United are considering whether to keep him or send him back out on loan.
Who will Man United sign as caretaker manager?
United are working on a permanent replacement for Amorim but in the meantime, they will appoint a caretaker manager to see out the second half of the season.
Both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick have been linked with a return to Old Trafford to step in as the club’s temporary manager. Manchester World understands an appointment is expected to be made early next week, ahead of the derby with Man City.
The Red Devils have already held talks with Carrick and are expected to speak with Solskjaer next. Both men are heavily linked with the role at United but a fresh report claims the duo are unlikely to return to Old Trafford to work together. Sky Sports has reported that the club feel the two former players and managers work better on an independent basis.
Meanwhile, Luis Enrique has emerged as a candidate to become the next full-time manager at Man United. You can read more about it below.
