Man Utd have sanctioned their first sale of the January transfer window and the player has sent a farewell message.
Sam Mather has posted an emotional farewell message after his Manchester United exit was confirmed in the January transfer window.
The 21-year-old became United's first sale of the winter window when he completed a permanent move to Turkish club Kayserispor earlier in the week. Mather was still contracted to United until June 2027 but decided he wanted to leave the club this season after he had outgrown youth football and was unlikely to make an impact at first-team level.
Mather had been in advanced talks to join Kayserispor on deadline day of the Turkish window last summer, but the deal collapsed due to the lack of time to complete the move. He rectified that failed move when he finally completed a move to them on Thursday. It is understood United did not receive a transfer fee for the forward, but have agreed a deal that would see them receive 20 per cent of any future sale.

Mather sends farewell message
Sam Mather is eager to make his mark on professional football after his 14-year spell at Manchester United came to an end earlier in the week.
Taking to social media on Saturday evening, Mather reacted to his exit and thanked his boyhood club for the key role they played in his development.
"After 14 years my time at @manutd has come to an end, I would like to thank all the staff and players who have helped me become the person and player I am today," he wrote on Instagram. "I will always be grateful for my time here and wish the club all the best. On a personal note it's time for me to move forward and I can't wait to get started!"
The Salford-born forward was part of the squad that won the FA Youth Cup in 2022, along with the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho. He signed his first professional contract with the club in September 2021 and was a regular in first-team training under various managers, including Ruben Amorim. He joined Rochdale on loan in the 2023/24 season and scored two goals in 10 appearances for the club.
Mather signed a new United contract in the summer of 2024 and was named in the first-team squad for their pre-season tour of the United States. He joined Tranmere Rovers on loan at the start of the year before he looked to leave United permanently in the summer.
