Manchester United could be set for wholesale changes as the club looks to navigate its current state of turmoil.

Ruben Amorim was relieved of his duties as head coach earlier this week following a gruelling 14-month tenure, during which he grew increasingly frustrated with transfer dealings and seemingly fell out with the club’s hierarchy.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has now been touted as a potential successor to interim boss Darren Fletcher in the role of caretaker manager. United CEO Omar Berrada and Director of Football Jason Wilcox have met with the former player and manager over the weekend.

This development could significantly impact United's transfer activity this month, compared to the situation when the January window first opened 11 days ago.

Regardless of who takes the helm, Wilcox will already be mulling over potential arrivals and departures behind the scenes, as the Manchester Evening News examines two of the latest transfer rumours involving United.

Bruno Fernandes fears emerge

There are reportedly concerns among Bruno Fernandes' team-mates that he may have had enough of the chaos at United and could leave in the summer after six years at the club. The 31-year-old United captain was heavily linked with a move away last summer following a reported £100m offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.

Fernandes admitted in November that he felt "hurt" and "sad" when United's bosses considered selling him, crediting his fellow countryman Amorim for convincing him to stay in Manchester. However, with Amorim now gone, The Sun reports Fernandes' team-mates believe he will finally make a move away in the coming months.

An insider reportedly said: “Some of the squad think Bruno has had enough and, to be honest, they don’t blame him. He always gives 100 per cent and has been the club’s best player since he joined.

“But they think that he feels let down under the new ownership model and Amorim leaving has not helped. He isn’t a likely candidate for a big-money move to Saudi because he’s a football purist.

“But no one can doubt from the moment he signed for Manchester United, he has given his all. No one wants him to leave — but his team-mates would understand if he did.”

Amorim exit blow

Amorim's sacking could impact United's recruitment plans, with reports suggesting they may miss out on signing Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi. Tuttosport reported Senesi, whose contract expires in the summer, was approached by United in December about a potential end-of-season move.

The 28-year-old Argentine centre-back is not expected to sign a new deal, which would have put United in a position to secure him on a free transfer. However, the report claims United are "busy with other matters" following Amorim's dismissal.

As United's primary focus is currently on resolving their managerial issue and "various shake-ups" at Old Trafford, Senesi appears to have been temporarily sidelined. This could potentially allow other clubs to gain an advantage over the Red Devils.

Italian giants Juventus are reportedly interested and are planning to begin talks with Senesi's camp next week. Barcelona are also said to have been in touch with his representatives.
