Manchester United 1-2 Brighton reaction and talking points after FA Cup exit
Man Utd sacked their head coach at the start of the week and still don't have a clear plan to replace him.
Amorim was dismissed in the wake of his comments after United had lost to Leeds when he criticised his lack of power at the club regarding both tactics and transfers. The 40-year-old felt he was not given the freedom to operate in his role of 'manager', despite the fact his job title was actually that of a 'head coach'.
United sources claimed Amorim was sacked due to a lack of 'evolution and progress' this season, rather than any internal power struggles between the head coach and the club hierarchy. However, that view is undermined by the fact that United did not have a plan in place to replace the Portuguese head coach after he was dismissed.

Dalot reveals United mood after Amorim sacked
Darren Fletcher took charge of his second Manchester United match as interim head coach when they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Brighton on Sunday afternoon. It is still not clear how long he will remain in his role, as United hope to hire a caretaker boss for the remainder of the season before a permanent successor to Ruben Amorim is appointed in the summer.
Fletcher was considered an outside candidate for the caretaker role, along with former United duo Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick. Whoever does take charge will only be focused on Premier League form after they exited both cup competitions at the first hurdle in a season when they are also without European football.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the Brighton defeat, Diogo Dalot was asked about the mood at the club after Amorim had been sacked: "On how it has been since the managerial change: "Really difficult. It's always a period that you have to find ways to solve problems really quickly. We have to adapt and go again.”
When quizzed on the match, he added: "We created enough to win the game to be honest. Then the red card gave us a disadvantage because we were on top of Brighton in the last moments. Overall very disappointed because we wanted to go through. All the lads kept trying to find spaces, like I said really disappointed because I think we deserved to win.
