Manchester United have set another unwanted record after being knocked out of the FA Cup by Brighton, as their 2-1 defeat means they will have a 40-game season for the first time since 1914-1915.
The Red Devils' managerial hunt continues, with Michael Carrick now favourite ahead of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to take over on an interim basis for the rest of the season. Despite the uncertainty in the dugout, it could still see a hectic end to the January transfer window for United as they have until February 2 to complete any deals should they wish to do so.

United's position on Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson has apparently come to light. Fabrizio Romano has disclosed on the Market Madness podcast that United are expected to be "busy" signing midfielders this year, though not until the summer window.
Anderson is reportedly on United's radar, according to Romano, with the club believed to be "serious contenders" to land the midfielder's signature at the end of the season.

Anderson isn't the only midfielder on United's wish list, according to Romano, with Brighton's Carlos Baleba also reportedly in their sights.
The England international has become a target for the Premier League's Big Six clubs after scintillating displays for Forest which have landed him in the conversation for the Three Lions.
With Forest in a battle to avoid relegation, it could mean that the former Newcastle United prospect will be available at a discounted price.

United are reportedly keen on Blackburn Rovers' young star Igor Tyjon. The Standard claims that United are among the clubs showing interest in signing Tyjon this summer when his scholarship deal at Ewood Park ends.
United will seemingly face competition from Arsenal for the 17-year-old's signature, with the Gunners touted as the most likely destination for Tyjon if he departs Blackburn.
It's been suggested that Rovers have previously rejected offers of £1million for Tyjon, and the Championship side would be entitled to compensation if he were to join another English club this summer when his contract expires.

Tyjon is said to have rejected his first professional contract at Rovers and will become a free agent at the end of the season. However, the club who sign him will still have to pay a fee to the Championship club.
