The FA Cup third round weekend is almost over and there is plenty to talk about after an incredible, VAR-free, weekend of top quality end-to-end football with plenty of cupsets as well as twists and turns along the way. The biggest headline will be the news that a non-league club knocked out the holders, meaning a new champion will be crown in May.
Crystal Palace suffered the biggest shock in the competition's history as the reigning FA Cup champions bowed out at the first time of asking to Macclesfield, who play in the sixth-tier of English football. It is the worst defence in the cup competitions history. Last season saw them cause a huge shock in the final beating favourite Manchester City and lifting their first ever major trophy but that historical moment has come crashing down by suffering the worst cup defence in the competition's 155-year history.
Elsewhere, 13-time winners Manchester United crashed out at home to Brighton & Hove Albion as the high-flying Seagulls won at Old Trafford thanks to former United player Danny Welbeck scoring the winner in a 2-1 victory for Fabian Hurzeler's side. They will join 13 other Premier League teams including Arsenal and Man City while Liverpool will be looking to avoid a cupset against Barnsley at Anfield tonight shortly after the 4th round draw.
