Harry Amass transfer latest as Sheffield Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen calls for 'patience'

Sheffield Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen remains determined to bring Harry Amass back to Hillsborough.

Manager Henrik Pedersen has confirmed discussions between Sheffield Wednesday and Manchester United are still ongoing about the possibility of Harry Amass returning to Hillsborough on loan.

The teenager returned to Old Trafford last weekend after his loan spell with Wednesday came to its conclusion after their 3-0 defeat to QPR at Loftus Road.

Amass, 18, made notable progress throughout his time at Hillsborough, establishing himself as a fans’ favourite. He made 21 Championship appearances, chipping in with one goal, scoring in the Owls’ 3-1 defeat to Southampton at St Mary’s in November.

However, with other Championship clubs understood to have declared interest in signing him on loan for the remainder of the season, it remains to be seen if Wednesday will win the race to bring him back to S6.

But despite the ongoing uncertainty, Pedersen is still refusing to give up hope of being reunited with the former Watford youngster at Hillsborough before the transfer window closes in three weeks time.

Pedersen refusing to give up on Amass return

”Right now there's no step forward,” Pedersen told The Star. “It's going a little bit back and forward.

“I still hope for the best, but let's see what happens.”

Asked if it is simply a case of having to wait and see, Pedersen answered: “I don't know.”

Wednesday, as things stand, are permitted to bring in just two loan signings in this month’s transfer window, although the prospect of losing goalkeeper Pierce Charles, who was forced off in Saturday’s 2-0 FA Cup defeat to Brentford, for an extended period of time will almost certainly see them allowed to bring in a goalkeeper on loan as well.

To make matters even more challenging for the Owls, they are restricted to free loans, meaning their list of targets have already been reduced. With that situation in mind, Pedersen has once again called for patience amid the ongoing demand for help.

“For the two loans, we are working all that we can,” added the Wednesday boss. “But again, it's not just the easiest job to find players.

“We like you, but we cannot give money. We are working all that we can, but we still need a little bit of patience because it's not just to find a player and bring him to the club.

“It's a difficult process so we need a little bit of patience.”
