Man Utd have made an interesting transfer decision on the teenager's future in the January window.
Manchester United have recalled Ethan Wheatley from his loan spell with Northampton Town with a view to sending him out on another loan in the second half of the season.
The 19-year-old has gained valuable experience at the struggling League One side this season and is expected to join a team higher in the division for the remainder of the campaign. Wheatley has grabbed three goals and notched four assists for Northampton this season, an impressive tally for a player of his age in a team near the bottom of the table.
Wheatley has impressed with his work rate and has started 22 matches across all competitions. There has been plenty of interest shown in him from across the EFL and United are eager to test him at the highest level possible where he will still earn regular playing time.

Wheatley set for fresh loan exit
Manchester United have confirmed they recalled Ethan Wheatley from his loan spell at Northampton Town. Wheatley is the fourth United youngster to head back to Carrington since the January transfer window opened at the start of the month.
United have already recalled Toby Collyer from his spell at West Brom, while defenders Sonny Aljofree (Notts County) and Louis Jackson (Solihull Moors) have also returned from their loans. The club are also expected to recall Elyh Harrison from his loan at Shrewsbury Town, while a final decision has yet to be made on Harry Amass, who has impressed at Sheffield Wednesday.
Taking to social media on Monday afternoon, Wheatley confirmed his return to Manchester and thanked Northampton for the opportunity they had given him. "Want to thank everyone at Northampton Town for the last 6 months," he wrote on Instagram. "Grateful to the manager and his staff who put their trust in me and been a pleasure to share the dressing room with the lads. Wishing them and the club all the best in the future."
Wheatley has made four competitive appearances for the United first-team but never featured under former head coach Ruben Amorim. The teenage striker was also part of the England U19 side and scored twice for them in the European Championship last summer. He wrote his name in history when he became the 250th academy graduate to debut for the first team.
