Michael Carrick already has a plan for Darren Fletcher at Man Utd with appointment imminent

Darren Fletcher ended his spell as Manchester United interim head coach with a defeat to Brighton in the FA Cup.

Following Ruben Amorim’s sacking at Manchester United, it was Darren Fletcher who stepped up to take charge for two matches.

Unfortunately, Fletcher is set to end his time as interim without a win. Now, Ineos are looking to appoint a new interim head coach until the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Michael Carrick is set to become interim after agreeing to United’s contract proposal. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer held positive talks over the vacancy, but he is set to miss out.

As United prepare for Michael Carrick’s arrival, it poses a question about Fletcher’s future at the club.

Darren Fletcher could join Michael Carrick’s Man Utd staff

Fletcher cannot be blamed for his poor results as United interim. Instead, he should be remembered as a brilliant servant to the club, both as a player and staff member.

Before taking the interim role, Fletcher was United’s Under-18s head coach, and he also has experience as a technical director.

The former United midfield duo reportedly still have a strong relationship, and Carrick is clearly open to working alongside him at Old Trafford.

Jonny Evans returned as Fletcher’s assistant, and he is also mentioned as an option for Carrick’s backroom staff alongside former England defender Jonathan Woodgate.

Michael Carrick is making decision Ruben Amorim didn’t

If Carrick does take the United job – and that seems likely – he has very little time to get organised before the Manchester derby on the weekend.

Carrick had his own backroom staff during his management spell at Middlesbrough, but it seems he is willing to lean on his United links at Old Trafford in Fletcher and Evans.

When Amorim was appointed by Ineos, he was given the option of keeping United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy on his backroom staff following his impressive stint as interim.

However, Amorim did not want Van Nistelrooy, instead choosing to let the Dutch striker pursue a full managerial role of his own.
