United on alert as club ready to sell the "next Frank Lampard" for€30m, have been chasing him since last summer - report

Former Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim wanted to sign a midfielder in January.

United refused this demand, among other things, which led to an untenable situation and his eventual departure.

It is believed that United would prefer to reinforce their midfield in the summer when they have a larger budget.

Manchester United interested in Jobe Bellingham

United’s priority is to sign one or two midfielders with experience of English football. They have been linked with Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, and Elliot Anderson. All three are likely to command record-breaking fees, making a winter deal difficult.

Figures at United also admire Jobe Bellingham, who has been on their radar since his time in the Championship with Sunderland.

Like his brother, Jude, the Englishman possesses exceptional athleticism and the ability to make a difference at both ends of the pitch, drawing comparisons to Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.

However, Bellingham has fallen down the pecking order at Borussia Dortmund, due to a number of factors, including tension between the club’s hierarchy and his camp.

Dortmund set Bellingham price tag

According to Fichajes, Dortmund are willing to sell Jobe Bellingham during the winter transfer window.

Villarreal appear to be his strongest suitors and are prepared to make a €20 million offer for the 20-year-old.

Jobe Bellingham Bundesliga stats: 2025/26 Season

Appearances 14

Minutes per game 35

Touches 29.2

Key passes 0.2

Accurate passes 19.6

Tackles 0.9

Total goal contribution 0

However, Dortmund would only consider sanctioning his sale for a fee of around €30m.

The Spanish outlet add that Bellingham would welcome a change of scenery.

United have the financial might to overtake Villarreal in the race to find an agreement with Dortmund. But whether the Red Devils would be able to convince Bellingham to return to England instead of moving to Spain, as his brother did, remains to be seen.
