Tottenham eye Sassuolo centre-back as CEO drops summer transfer hint amid Inter and Juventus…

Tottenham Hotspur have been looking at reinforcements across multiple positions this transfer window.

Tottenham have been looking to get some depth in the heart of the defence for some time now. But now, given that Radu Dragusin has been linked with a Hotspur Way exit, the North Londoners would want to explore the market to get a new face in the roster to cover for Micky van de Ven.

This is where the Lilywhites’ need for a left centre back comes into the picture this window.

Tottenham are said to be among the clubs looking at Sassuolo defender Tarik Muharemovic, who is quietly emerging as one of the most intriguing young centre-backs in Serie A (h/t The Boy Hotspur). But Spurs are not the only club vying for his services, as the likes of Newcastle United, Inter Milan and Manchester United are also looking at the 22-year-old.

Though as the Premier League trio shoulder their interest in him, Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig are said to be preparing a €25m bid for him, showing that the race for his services could end up becoming quite competitive.

Muharemovic moved to Sassuolo last summer from Juventus’ second team. His move set them back just €3m, and that fee is already looking like an outstanding business.

The Bosnian international is quite physical off the ball and is quite calm on it.

Juventus clause complicating any deal for Tarik Muharemovic

Juventus are said to have a 50% sell-on clause on the 22-year-old. This clause significantly affects Sassuolo’s negotiating position, given that they will have to give away almost half of what they get.

Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali has already confirmed contact regarding Muharemovic, but he added that there have been no formal offers at the time of writing.

For now, they are not really enthusiastic about selling him this winter window, and there is a sense around the move that summer could be far more realistic.

For Tottenham, this looks like a move to not only bring in an immediate backup to Van de Ven but also a possible long-term successor to the Dutch defender.

But there is a lot of interest in wiggling out of it alongside Sassuolo’s stance of a possible January sale for the Lilywhites to have a realistic chance of signing him. We will see where this rumour goes in the next days, but by the current looks of it, this is something that the fans need to keep close tabs on for the upcoming summer and then this winter.
