Scholes told The Good, The Bad & The Football that he completely understands why the hierarchy are going for Michael Carrick.

He believes that United fans have seen too many poor moments under Solskjaer, in addition to the good ones, and argues that Carrick is simply the fresher option.

“For some reason I just favour Michael,” Scholes began.

“I don’t think Michael has got the scars that Ole had from last time. It didn’t end very well, a really bad defeat at Watford.

“Michael’s not got them scars happened to him, I’d probably go for the fresher [option] Michael Carrick. He’s got some good experience now.”
