Manchester United are thrashing out the details ahead of hiring Michael Carrick.
Michael Carrick has beaten competition from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to land the Manchester United interim job. The negotiations are now in the ‘final stages‘.
Among the issues being ironed out are the make-up of Carrick’s coaching staff.

Jonathan Woodgate lined up for Carrick staff
United are exploring making Darren Fletcher or Jonny Evans part of Michael Carrick’s staff. But there is another name too.
The Guardian reports that Manchester United are looking to bring in Jonathan Woodgate.
Woodgate worked alongside Michael Carrick during his time at Middlesbrough as an assistant coach.
He previously held the position of Middlesbrough manager during 2019/20, and later had a spell as caretaker manager at Bournemouth.

Woodgate is better known for his playing career, where he had a spell at Real Madrid along with Leeds, Tottenham and Newcastle.
One connection from his playing days holds high relevance for Woodgate’s potential United role, he played alongside Jason Wilcox, the Red Devils’ current sporting director.

The Jason Wilcox connection
Jonathan Woodgate and Jason Wilcox were teammates at Leeds during the early 2000s.
The pair are pictured below in May 2001.

It is unlikely that Wilcox will have any opposition to the proposals to bring Woodgate into the coaching staff.
Carrick is understood to have impressed in interviews, seeing off competition from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to land the role.
He will be confirmed as United interim boss over the next 48 hours, along with the rest of his coaching staff.
