BREAKING Michael Carrick spotted at Carrington as Man Utd'reach agreement'with manager

Michael Carrick has been snapped arriving at Carrington on Tuesday morning, ahead of being named the Red Devils' interim manager.

Carrick, 44, was photographed driving into Carrington following reports he has agreed a deal with United until the end of the season after Ruben Amorim was sacked earlier this month. The former United midfielder faced competition from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but has reportedly been handed the role.

According to The Athletic, the deal will see Carrick bring in his backroom staff - and his first game will be a crunch derby with local rivals Manchester City on Saturday lunchtime. The report adds the hiring process led by director of football Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada.

However, it will require a sign-off from INEOS' head honcho Sir Jim Ratcliffe before an official announcement can be made.

Carrick has previously managed the Red Devils, taking a caretaker role after Solskjaer was sacked back in 2021. In that spell, he won twice and drew once before leaving the club.

He then took up a role at Middlesbrough, in October 2022, guiding them from 21st when he took over to fourth by the end of the season. However, they lost in the play-off semi-finals to Coventry.

However, after finishing 8th and then 10th, Carrick was sacked by the Teeside outfit over the summer.

Amorim was sacked by United after 14 months in the role following a spectacular outburst following a draw with Leeds - and former midfielder Darren Fletcher stepping up from his position with the U18s to take charge.

In his short spell, the Red Devils drew 2-2 with Burnley and were dumped out of the FA Cup by Brighton over the weekend.

Carrick is now expected to be at the helm of United as they clash with City, who are in need of a win after a series of draws in the Premier League - which has seen them surrender ground to Arsenal.
