Man Utd will hire a new coaching team to assist Michael Carrick in his role as caretaker head coach.

The 44-year-old former United midfielder is set to be unveiled as the club's caretaker head coach for the remainder of the season, with a formal announcement expected on Tuesday afternoon. Carrick will then take charge of his first training session on Wednesday morning, before he leads the club for the first time against Man City this weekend.

Carrick advocated for former Middlesbrough coach Woodgate to join him in Manchester, while he will also be supported by former England and Chelsea coach Holland as his assistant. The 55-year-old served as assistant manager to Gareth Southgate during his time as England manager, with his last role as head coach of J League side Yokohama F. Marinos, before he was sacked in April 2025.

Manchester United new coaching team revealed

Manchester United are set to unveil their new coaching team as part of their set-up under caretaker head coach Michael Carrick.

Carrick will officially take charge as caretaker head coach, with Steve Holland appointed as his assistant manager in the new structure. They will be supported by assistants Jonathan Woodgate, Jonny Evans and Travis Binnion. Woodgate previously worked alongside Carrick at Middlesbrough, while Evans returned to the club during the interim spell of Darren Fletcher. Travis Binnion has been promoted to the senior set-up after his work with the U21s.

It is understood that former interim head coach Fletcher will return to his previous role in charge of the U18s and not be involved with first-team matters. The 41-year-old was viewed as an outside shot for the caretaker position but failed to win either of his two matches during his week in the role. Fletcher remains highly rated by United but it has been mutually agreed that his immediate coaching development would be best served in his previous position.

Manchester World understand that there are only a few small details left to be sorted out before an official announcement is made. United plan to unveil Carrick as their caretaker head coach on Tuesday, and he will take charge of his first training session on Wednesday morning. He will take charge of his first match in the role when United host Man City in the Premier League this weekend.
