Michael Carrick is set to be appointed as Manchester United’s interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
Darren Fletcher’s time in the Manchester United hot seat was short-lived as Ineos wanted a more experienced candidate to see out the rest of the season.
According to David Ornstein, a deal has been agreed in principle for Michael Carrick to become interim head coach.

When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer held positive talks over the role, it seemed as though he would return to Old Trafford, but United’s hierarchy have gone in a different direction.
That might not come as a surprise to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer given the prediction he made back in 2023.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tipped Michael Carrick for Man Utd job
Solskjaer will be disappointed to have missed out on a return to United, but he was one of the biggest advocates for Michael Carrick leading the Red Devils.
Back in 2023, Solskjaer named Carrick as a future United manager, suggesting he had everything it takes to lead the club forward.

“I am 100 per cent sure that Michael will be the manager of Manchester United if he wants to be,” Solskjaer said.

“He’s had Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho as managers, and he’s played with the best players in the world. He’s a winner but he’s still in control of his emotions.
“I cannot see him not being the Manchester United manager.”
Michael Carrick has chance to earn permanent Man Utd job
Solskjaer knows better than anyone that a successful stint as a caretaker boss can quickly earn you a permanent appointment.
The Norwegian manager did it at Old Trafford in the 2018/19 season, and now Carrick has an opportunity to do the same.

The noise coming out of Old Trafford is that Ineos want to make a world-class appointment in the summer, but Carrick can force their hand if he impresses over the next five months.
Carrick certainly doesn’t have an easy start, though. His first two matches come against Manchester City and Premier League leaders Arsenal.
