Michael Carrick’s appointment at Manchester United might catch the eye of one Premier League star who is a big fan of his coaching style.
Ineos have decided to appoint Michael Carrick as interim head coach for the remainder of the season, before carrying out a process to make a longer-term appointment in the summer.
That is, of course, unless Michael Carrick impresses so much in the next five months that he forces Ineos’ hand to give him the permanent role.

Carrick’s first stint as interim was certainly impressive, with two wins over Villarreal and Arsenal and a draw to Chelsea.
Since that first stint, Carrick was Middlesbrough manager and picked up some priceless experience in the Championship. During that time, he found himself in charge of a certain Morgan Rogers.

Morgan Rogers piles praise on Michael Carrick
Carrick joined Middlesbrough in 2022, and in his first summer transfer window he signed off on a £1 million deal to sign Morgan Rogers from Manchester City.
Rogers went on to score seven goals and provide nine assists in just 33 games for Carrick’s Middlesbrough, before moving to Aston Villa in 2024.

As quoted by The Mirror, Rogers said: “Michael Carrick, he was the coach that spoke to me away from football,” said Rogers.
“There was always a line of communication with him which I thought was vital at the time. I still speak to him now.
“I had a difficult three years going out on loan – before Middlesbrough – but I don’t think I’d be the player I am now without the experiences.
“It gave me the toughness to go through adversity, it also helped me grow up and learn about myself and what I needed to improve. At that time, I wasn’t ready.”
Morgan Rogers paid Man United the ultimate compliment
Since thriving under Carrick’s management, Rogers has grown to become a Premier League star at Aston Villa.
Last month, United lost 2-1 to Aston Villa in cruel circumstances, as Rogers scored two incredible goals against the run of play.
After the full-time whistle, Rogers was full of praise for United, and his comments came across as a player flirting with the idea of a potential move.

“It’s massive. Every game is important, there’s no bigger team than Man United,” Rogers said. “We’ve not had a great record against them, we wanted to put it right and we’re really happy with the three points.”
Carrick’s appointment at United may turn Rogers’ head towards an Old Trafford move, but only if the 44-year-old is kept on permanently.
