Michael Carrick is set to step in as interim manager at Manchester United following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim. Reports have also shed light on his plans for the January transfer window.
Amorim was given his marching orders after a 14-month tenure, leaving Darren Fletcher to oversee United's 2-2 draw against Burnley in the Premier League and a disappointing FA Cup exit at Brighton's hands.
However, it will now be Carrick who will steer the ship until the end of the season while the hunt for Amorim's permanent replacement continues.
As the January transfer window swings into action, there could be some new arrivals at Old Trafford under Carrick's stewardship, but recent reports have revealed the Englishman's transfer strategy. The Manchester Evening News brings you the latest updates from United.
Michael Carrick's transfer plans unveiled
The Athletic reports that Carrick, who previously served as caretaker manager for three matches following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's sacking, will not alter the club's long-term transfer plans.
Prior to his appointment, it was revealed that United would only pursue long-term targets during this window if they became available or to prevent them from being snapped up by rival teams.

These players are said to include Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba. A fresh report suggests that under Carrick this approach will remain unchanged, with no plans to bring in new players specifically for the incoming head coach.
Over the forthcoming transfer windows, United are believed to be targeting two additional midfielders to strengthen their squad, with Elliot Anderson identified as their priority signing in that position.
Academy winger departs
As Carrick takes up his role, there has been a departure from Carrington. Young academy winger Sam Mather has confirmed he has left the club following 14 years in their youth system.
The Salford-born wide player penned his first professional deal with the club in 2021 and was part of an FA Youth Cup-winning side. He travelled with United on their pre-season tour of the United States in 2024.
After spending the majority of last season on loan at Tranmere Rovers, he has now signed for Turkish Super Lig outfit Kayserispor and posted an emotional farewell message on Instagram.

"I will always be grateful for my time here and wish the club all the best. On a personal note, it's time for me to move forward and I can't wait to get started!"
