Carrick began his coaching career journey in 2018 under Jose Mourinho, after the manager spotted his potential. He then worked as an assistant under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, alongside Kieran McKenna.
He managed United on an interim basis for three games in 2021, winning two and drawing one. Following this stint he earned major praise from Bruno Fernandes, and Cristiano Ronaldo, despite leaving each one out of the starting line-up in separate matches.
