Darren Fletcher will return to manage Manchester United's Under-18s after Michael Carrick's appointment. Fletcher was offered the chance to join Carrick's staff, but decided to return to his former position.
United sources have indicated key club figures have been extremely impressed with how Fletcher conducted himself as caretaker boss. The 41-year-old is understood to be internally rated "exceptionally highly."
Fletcher will resume his coaching stint with the U18s in order to further his development. United were also keen to keep a coach who they view as excellent in that important position.
United confirmed Carrick's appointment as head coach on Tuesday evening, following an interview process in which Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was also given serious consideration.
Fletcher oversaw a 2-2 draw against Burnley in the Premier League and a defeat to Brighton in the FA Cup. Speaking after that loss, he said: "I think these players have got the ability to qualify in the Champions League place, and that should be their objective, that should be their mindset.
