Manchester United appoint Michael Carrick: The club broke the news that the Englishman has been appointed as interim head coach on Tuesday evening. Read the full story here.
Length of contract revealed: Carrick will hold tenure until the end of the current campaign, when Manchester United will assess their options going forward. The 44-year-old could be appointed permanent head coach should he impress.
An 'honour': Speaking after his appointment, Carrick said: "Having the responsibility to lead Manchester United is an honour. I know what it takes to succeed here; my focus is now on helping the players to reach the standards that we expect at this incredible club, which we know that this group is more than capable of producing."
An 'excellent coach': Director of football at Manchester United, Jason Wilcox, added: "Michael is an excellent coach and knows exactly what it takes to win at Manchester United."
Backroom staff: Joining Carrick as technical staff and coaches will be Steve Holland, Jonathan Woodgate, Travis Binnion, Jonny Evans and Craig Mawson.
Darren Fletcher's future: After leading the Reds for clashes with Burnley and Brighton, Fletcher will return to his duties as the lead coach of United's U18 set-up. The club thanked him for his efforts in their appointment statement.
Up first for Carrick: Carrick's first game in charge of the United first-team lands in the form of the Manchester Derby against City on Saturday. Kick off at Old Trafford is slated for 12.30pm.
