Joao Gomes insists he remains committed to helping Wolves pull off a miracle escape from relegation amid links with Manchester United. The Brazilian midfielder has been a rare bright spark for the Black Country side this season.

He has made 23 appearances in all competitions, with his form impressing potential suitors. United are reportedly among those interested in his services, while Italian giants Napoli have also been linked.

Gomes might be left with a decision to make over his future should Wolves drop into the Championship. But it appears that he remains focused on performing for his current side for the time being.

Speaking to Globo Esporte, he said: “We are working very hard every day to get Wolves out of this situation. The season ends in May and there is still a long way to go. We ask the fans to keep believing in us because we are very committed to changing the situation the team is in.”

He added: “I can only thank everyone who has always trusted me and given me the chance to step onto the pitch to represent Wolves. The affection from the fans is incredible, and I really want to give that back. I will give my life on the pitch so the team can finish the season safe from relegation.”

Wolves have shown signs of life under Rob Edwards over recent weeks. A draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford was followed by their first win of the campaign as they beat West Ham 3-0.

Edwards’ side have followed that up with another draw against Everton, while they also beat Shrewsbury Town 6-1 in the FA Cup third round over the weekend.

On the club’s recent form, Gomes said: “Even before we started this unbeaten run, we were already playing well. We conceded a goal in stoppage time against Arsenal in London after a great performance. We knew it was a matter of making adjustments. These four matches without defeat are not a coincidence.”

Wolves however remain in danger of dropping into the Championship. And it appears that Gomes is not too keen on following them.

He said: “It is another dream come true. The Premier League is the biggest national league in the world. Everything here is sensational, from the level of the games to the atmosphere in the stands.”

Gomes joined Wolves from Brazilian side Flamengo in 2023. He has gone on to make 112 appearances for the side and has three-and-a-half years remaining on his current deal.
