The French media have reacted to Mason Greenwood’s most recent Marseille hat-trick by heaping praise on the former Manchester United man.
Greenwood played the full 90 minutes of the Coupe de France clash on Tuesday, where Ligue 1 giants Marseille didn’t hold back against sixth tier opponents Bayeux, clinching a 9-0 victory at the Stade Michel d’Ornano, Caen.
Bayeux approached the match refusing to play a defensive game and they suffered as a result, with their impressive run in the competition coming to an end. Roberto De Zerbi’s side were never threatened and it was another former United man, Angel Gomes, who opened the scoring after a quarter of an hour.
After that the floodgates opened, with Greenwood scoring in the 26th minute after a blistering first-half spell with a left-footed finish. The 24-year-old, who left United permanently in July 2024, added his second shortly after half-time to make it 5-0.
After assisting Amine Gouiri with a cross and then CJ Egan-Riley with a pinpoint corner, Greenwood completed his hat-trick with the final kick of the game to seal the match ball and take his tally for the season up to 19 goals in all competitions.
Now, the Manchester Evening News takes a look at what the French media said about the former United academy graduate's overall performance.
