Brentford’s Frank Onyeka has admitted he’d quite like to play for Manchester United.
The Nigeria international is currently with his national team at the ongoing AFCON tournament. The Super Eagles have made it to the semi-final, where they’ll face hosts Morocco later today.
Punch Sports in Nigeria explain how the Brentford player publicly talked about his wish to join Manchester United.
Manchester United fan Hussain Vorajee approached the defensive midfielder whilst he’s in Morocco. From the video, it appears the Red Devils supporter initially didn’t recognise the 28-year-old.
Vorajee directly asked Onyeka his name and the club he currently represents.
He then asked the Brentford player whether he wants to play for Manchester United, certainly putting the Brentford player on the spot.
When responding to that, Onyeka was friendly and open about how he feels over such a move.
“Yes of course, I want to play for Manchester United,” he said.
The Bees signed the midfielder from FC Midtjylland in July 2021, after they secured promotion to the Premier League. He returned to Brentford after spending last season on loan at FC Augsburg.
Keith Andrews has limited Onyeka to only 88 minutes from six Premier League matches this season. If he wants a move like Manchester United then he obviously needs to impress Andrews first.
Brentford player in big semi-final tonight
The Nigerian has less than 18 months left on his contract and Transfermarkt currently values him at €7m.
Manchester United signed Bryan Mbeumo from the Bees last July. The negotiations were intense due to Brentford’s tough stance and interest shown by other clubs for the Cameroon international forward.
Frank Onyeka’s Nigeria face hosts Morocco in their AFCON semi-final this evening. The Brentford player was clearly full of excitement, which will explain his less than diplomatic answer.
Rather than genuinely fishing for a move, this was more a friendly chat.
