Nottingham Forest could be given help in their striker search if transfer dominoes fall at AS Roma.
The Serie A outfit are hopeful of signing Donyell Malen from Aston Villa, have virtually sealed a deal for teenager Robinho Vaz from Marseille and are still keen on Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee.
That means they need to offload, and one obvious candidate is Evan Ferguson, the Republic of Ireland striker who is on loan from Brighton but who has recently been out with a back injury.
Ferguson moved to the Italian capital in July for a season-long loan with an option to buy for €40million.
However, just three goals in 15 Serie A appearances have led to speculation he could be moved out to make way for new options and Gazzetta dello Sport say Forest, Betis and Napoli are ‘keeping an eye’ on the situation.
The Reds are known to be looking to bolster their options up front with Chris Wood injured and Arnaud Kalimuendo on loan with Eintracht Frankfurt.
That leaves Taiwo Awoniyi as Igor Jesus’ back-up and the Reds needing other options. It was reported on Tuesday that Olympiacos’ Mehdi Taremi is the ‘leading candidate’.
Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen, Roma’s Artem Dovbyk and Fenerbahce’s Youssef En-Nesyri have also been mentioned, with Everton being linked with the latter.
Ferguson joined the Brighton youth set-up from Bohemians and looked to be on the brink of a breakthrough before ankle surgery and a disappointing loan spell at West Ham last season left him needing to reset.
