Man Utd transfer news: £20m deal in pipeline, Prem star contacted, Mainoo decision made

Having been knocked out of both domestic cup competitions, all eyes are on the Premier League for United, as they look to mount a Champions League qualification battle. But the question the Red Devils faithful are asking is, will Carrick be backed by INEOS in the January transfer market? Express Sport have rounded up all of the latest Man United transfer rumours.

Remember him? A mainstay for Wolves, Ruben Neves departed the West Midlands outfit in 2023, joining Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal as part of a big-money move. Unlike some of the other Saudi signings, Neves has stuck around in the Middle East, but is being touted with a potential move away this month. That’s because his contract with Al-Hilal is set to expire at the end of the season, meaning the record Saudi champions could be tempted into a sale. Given United’s issues in midfield, the Red Devils have been reportedly linked with a move for Neves. It’s said £20million could get the job done, which for a player of Neves’ quality, could be considered somewhat of a bargain.

Because of the lack of European football for United this season, they will be looking to complete savvy deals, instead of spending big. Another player who could represent a good value for money pick up is Marcos Senesi, given the Argentine is also coming towards the end of his contract with Bournemouth. A solid and dependable option in the middle of defence, Senesi is in his prime years, with the 28-year-old being tracked by some of Europe’s biggest names. Given Bournemouth’s model as a selling club, the Cherries could be tempted into a mid-season sale, should the finances work out for both parties. Plus, according to some reports, United have already made contact with Senesi’s representatives.

How things could’ve been different for Kobbie Mainoo, had Ruben Amorim still been in charge for the January transfer window. But it looks as if the midfielder has been given a second chance following the Portuguese tactician’s sacking. However, Mainoo isn’t believed to be fully convinced about sticking around at United, with the Mirror reporting Carrick has until the tail end of the transfer window to prove to Mainoo he’s part of the plans.
