The French media were left singing Mason Greenwood’s praises after the former Manchester United forward’s latest hat-trick for Marseille. Greenwood played the full 90 minutes of Tuesday's Coupe de France match, where Ligue 1 giants Marseille showed no mercy against sixth-tier side Bayeux, securing a 9-0 victory at the Stade Michel d'Ornano in Caen.
Bayeux's decision to avoid a defensive set-up backfired spectacularly, bringing their impressive run in the tournament to an end. Roberto De Zerbi's team were never under threat, with another ex-United player, Angel Gomes, breaking the deadlock after just 13 minutes.
After that, the goals came thick and fast, with Greenwood finding the back of the net in the 26th minute with a left-footed effort. The 24-year-old, who left United for good in July 2024, grabbed his second goal shortly after the break to make it 5-0.
After setting up Amine Gouiri with a cross and then CJ Egan-Riley with a pinpoint corner, Greenwood rounded off his hat-trick with the final kick of the game. That secured him the match ball and took his season's goal tally to 19 in all competitions.

Ouest added: "Facing Olympique de Marseille, nine-time French champions, the R1 amateurs were outmatched, suffering a resounding 9-0 defeat against a disciplined and focused team led by Roberto De Zerbi, exemplified by Mason Greenwood's hat-trick and two assists."
Making easy work of it
Regional newspaper La Provence offered equally positive praise for Greenwood, awarding him a 7.5/10 rating on the night.
They wrote: "The Englishman strolled through the game. Promoted to captain at halftime, he had already opened his account with a lightning-fast counter-attack (26). He then converted a pass from Gouiri (49), before returning the favor (55). A hat-trick to finish (90)."
