Former West Ham player Michael Carrick has been announced as Manchester United's head coach until the end of the season.
Carrick was part of the West Ham United youth squad that won the FA Youth Cup in the 1998–99 season. Carrick made his West Ham breakthrough in the 2000-01 season, playing 41 games in all competitions, which included 33 games in the league.
For two successive season’s Carrick was voted as West Ham's Young Player of the Year and was nominated for the PFA team of the year award.
He left West Ham for Tottenham in 2004 after the club failed to gain promotion back to the Premier League.
He then joined Manchester United in 2006 and won a hatful of trophies including five Premier League tiles and a Champions League.
On his appointment Carrick said: “I know what it takes to succeed here. My focus is now on helping the players to reach the standards that we expect at this incredible club, which we know that this group is more than capable of producing.”
“I have worked with a number of the players already and have obviously continued to watch the team closely in recent years, I have total belief in their talents, dedication and ability to be successful here.”
Carrick first game in charge will be a difficult one as they play rivals Manchester City at home in the Premier League.
