Christian Eriksen has admitted he was fine being let go by Manchester United in the summer, as it gave him an extended holiday with his family.
SportBILD have an interview with the Danish midfielder today. He discusses various topics, including his departure from Manchester United last summer.
The veteran was one of several players who United decided to let depart on a free transfer in the summer transfer window. He had fallen out of favour under Ruben Amorim following his arrival earlier in the campaign.
Eriksen had been with Manchester United since 2022 when he joined on a free transfer following a successful stint at Brentford. He went on to become a regular in their midfield, particularly under Erik ten Hag.
He was a key player in the squad that secured a top four finish in the Premier League and won the EFL Cup in the 2022-23 season. There was also FA Cup success during his time at Old Trafford. He slowly fell out of favour under Amorim, though, leading to Manchester United letting him go on a free last summer.
A long summer of seeking opportunities followed before Eriksen eventually signed with Wolfsburg on September 9th.
Manchester United gave Eriksen extended family time
He had been linked with various clubs throughout Europe before that. Reports indicated that he didn’t want a fourth club in England. However, the lateness of his arrival at Wolfsburg did cause concern.
For example, we covered concerns from pundits and the media in July as Eriksen failed to sign for a new club after leaving Manchester United. This was then added to by Denmark coach Brian Riemer in August. Even his decision to sign for the German club was questioned by the likes of Thomas Gravesen.
Christian Eriksen, though, insists there was no panic. Instead, he was busy enjoying an extended vacation with his family.
“It was a great vacation,” he said.
“For my family and me as a father, it was actually nice. But of course, at the end of the transfer window, I was waiting to see what would happen. You wonder: What will happen? VfL Wolfsburg gave me the opportunity. And so far, it’s been the right decision.”
