Ineos have made the decision to hire Michael Carrick until the end of the season and then make a long-term appointment.
On Tuesday evening, Manchester United confirmed Michael Carrick’s appointment as interim head coach.
The 44-year-old former midfielder will take charge of the final 17 games of the season, and all focus is on the Premier League after United crashed out of the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup at the first hurdle.
Ineos and United’s hierarchy find themselves under huge pressure after making the bold decision to sack Ruben Amorim and gamble the rest of the season on a temporary appointment.
But perhaps this is Ineos actually learning from their past mistakes.

Ineos likely regret mid-season Ruben Amorim hire
Last season, Ineos pulled the trigger and sacked Erik ten Hag. Just a few weeks later, Amorim was brought in from Sporting Lisbon to take charge.
It was no secret that Amorim wanted to finish the season with Sporting and then join United in the summer so he could have a full pre-season with his squad.

What actually happened is Amorim joined midway through the season, struggled to implement his style of play and United crashed down to a record-worst 15th-place finish in the Premier League table.

When Amorim lashed out at the board, Ineos clearly felt there was no other option than to sack the Portuguese coach.
This time, though, they are not risking another mid-season appointment and have instead opted for Carrick, hoping that his familiarity with the club can bring some stability.
Two Man United candidates may not get pre-season
Carrick’s appointment has given Ineos plenty of time to scour the market for available managers in the summer, and there is already a growing list of candidates.
Ideally, Ineos will want a new head coach to step in at the end of the season and enjoy a full pre-season schedule, but that isn’t possible for some of the options.
United have been linked with Thomas Tuchel, but the German coach is busy this summer hoping to lead England to World Cup glory.

The same can be said for United candidate Julian Nagelsmann, who is currently in charge of the Germany national team and will also be at the World Cup this summer.
Depending on how far they progress, the World Cup final is on 19 July, so they would likely miss a large portion of United’s pre-season plans.
