“Dream” – President goes public with desire to sign Nottingham Forest player

Nottingham Forest still control Douglas Luiz’s immediate future, and fresh comments from Brazil now add context rather than change the picture outlined earlier this week.

Speaking to ESPN, Vasco da Gama president Pedrinho admitted that bringing Douglas Luiz back to the club remains a “dream”. The midfielder is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest from Juventus, and his situation in England continues to shape any discussion about what comes next.

After the Brazilian press recently flagged Douglas Luiz’s alleged interest in rejoining Vasco, his comments add detail to that picture.

“There are many players who want to return to Vasco, and we also want them back,” Pedrinho said. “When the player has that desire, it helps. It is not halfway there, but it is a good starting point. Still, it is a dream. Douglas already knows that.”

Pedrinho added that Douglas Luiz has kept informal contact with club officials, but he played down expectations of an imminent move.

“These are very difficult deals,” he explained. “They have all developed a lot in Europe, and that makes everything harder to complete.”

For Nottingham Forest, the context remains unchanged. Douglas Luiz is on loan from Juventus with an option to buy tied to appearances in the Premier League. The exact threshold has not been disclosed. If triggered, the permanent transfer would cost around £25.5m (€30m).

The midfielder has featured sparingly so far, which leaves Nottingham Forest assessing whether he fits their medium-term plans. As things stand, comments from Brazil underline emotional ties, not pressure on the Premier League club.
