Man Utd hold talks with Champions League club over deal for ‘world-class’ star to go…

Manchester United and Barcelona have held talks this month about the long-term future of Marcus Rashford and a potential deal to see him stay with the Spanish side, according to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs.

The Red Devils have loaned out Rashford since January 2025, with the England international initially joining Aston Villa for the second half of last season, before he made the move to the Catalan giants in the summer on a season-long loan with an option to make the move permanent for €30m (£26m).

Since moving to the Camp Nou, Rashford has shone in Hansi Flick's side, and it has now emerged that they want to extend his stay with them beyond this season.

Rashford, who has been described as 'world-class', has registered six goals and eight assists in 16 starts for the club in La Liga and the Champions League this season, just one assist behind star man Lamine Yamal.

That form has seen the reigning Spanish champions make a decision on extending his stay with the club, and Ben Jacobs has revealed that talks have been held between the clubs this month to find a solution over a deal.

Barcelona's financial issues are well documented, and they would prefer not to trigger the £26m option to make the deal permanent, and would rather pay a lower fee instead. It's unclear if Man Utd would be open to doing that deal, but Barcelona have also floated the idea of a second season-long loan deal for next year, with a conditional obligation to make the transfer permanent.

Rashford wants to stay at Barcelona and it's understood that more talks are expected to be held between now and the end of the season to find a solution.

The England forward currently earns over £300,000-a-week on his Old Trafford contract, which runs until 2028, and INEOS are desperate to get those inflated wages off their books, so it seems highly unlikely that he will return to the club even if he doesn't stay at Barcelona.

Despite being a childhood fan and a product of the academy, it's evident that Rashford has no future at Man Utd.

The club have made it clear they see their future without him, hence giving Matheus Cunha his number ten shirt before he was even officially out of the dor, and a permanent move away in the summer would suit all parties.

However, the 28-year-old may well be worth more than the £26m Barcelona's option is worth, and should he find himself in Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad with England this summer, some strong performances could see more interested parties emerge and a deal come to the table.

Talks will be held and a deal will eventually be found, but this is clearly a situation to keep an eye on in the coming months.
