Man United and Tottenham are amongst a group of clubs targeting the same winger this year.

Man United aren’t expected to make any big money signings in January, especially seeing as they don’t know who their manager is going to be next season yet. Michael Carrick has been appointed as interim, but there’s no point bringing in major signings if they can’t guarantee they’ll suit whichever manager United have next year.

So, the summer is likely to be a busy transfer window for Man United, both with regard to a new manager and the players. It is understood that the Red Devils still want to improve in attack, despite adding Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in the summer.

Man United, Tottenham, and Liverpool are all reportedly interested in the same winger this year, but the Red Devils are expected to wait until the summer to make a move. Spurs may have just boosted their chances of landing him.

Tottenham see approach for Diomande rejected

He is expected to cost around £78m, and so won’t come cheap, but if United don’t spend much in January, then they could save up the funds to make a splash in the summer transfer window.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham looked to make a move for Diomande in January, and they failed. He said via TeamTalk that Spurs’ move to sign him this month came up short, as RB Leipzig have refused to sell him mid-season, and have said that any interested clubs will have to wait until the summer.

Seeing as Tottenham are keen to sign a winger right now, they could turn to alternative targets, therefore opening the door for Man United and Liverpool to go after Diomande in the summer transfer window. If United can get Champions League football, it could make a huge difference as they’ll try to lure the 19-year-old to Old Trafford.

Man United could sign Diomande’s teammate in January

If the Red Devils are to make a move for a winger in January, it will be someone much cheaper than Diomande. Reports suggest that United could actually go after Diomande’s Ivory Coast teammate Bazoumana Toure, who plays club football for Bundesliga side Hoffenheim.

According to Caught Offside, Arsenal, Newcastle and Brentford are also keen on the 19-year-old this month. It is understood that Hoffenheim would rather not sell Toure in January, but for the right fee, they potentially could. It is understood that he’s expected to cost around £30m.

This season, Toure has made 16 appearances for the German club, scoring two goals and providing five assists. He plays mainly as a left-winger, but can also play on the right, and could be a useful addition for Man United for the remainder of the season.
