The latest Man Utd training and team news after Michael Carrick took charge of his first session.

The 44-year-old was officially appointed on Tuesday evening and will oversee three first-team training sessions in the build-up to United's clash with Man City at Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime. Carrick was unbeaten in his previous three-match spell as an interim head coach and will hope for another positive result this weekend.

United welcomed back Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo from the Africa Cup of Nations, and could be without just two senior stars for the derby clash. Noussair Mazraoui will miss the match after Morocco reached the AFCON final against Senegal, while Matthijs De Ligt is currently sidelined due to injury. Carrick will offer an official squad update when he speaks to the press for the first time on Friday afternoon, but here is all the early team news.

United include Habeeb Ogunneye in training squad

Manchester United had an almost full-strength squad to choose from in Michael Carrick's first training session as Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo were both welcomed back after their international involvements.

There was also a surprise inclusion for young full-back Habeeb Ogunneye, who took part in the session on the same day he was recalled from his loan at Newport County. The 20-year-old moved to the League Two club last summer and made 20 appearances across all competitions. United include break clauses in every academy loan deal they sanction and decided to bring Ogunneye back after he dropped down the pecking order at Newport.

United have also recalled Joe Hugill from his loan at Barnet due to a lack of playing time. The 22-year-old made just five appearances during an injury-stricken spell, in which he only made three brief cameo appearances since he returned to fitness in early December. The duo could both leave on new loan deals for the second half of the season in a pursuit of increased playing time.

It is understood Carrick also included both Jack and Tyler Fletcher in his first training session after their father Darren returned to his role as U18s head coach. Fletcher impressed during his brief spell as interim head coach but declined the chance to work with the first-team for the remainder of the season.
