Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is NOT looking to leave the club in the January transfer window. It has been suggested that the Portuguese midfielder is keen on moving away following Ruben Amorim’s sacking.

The former Sporting Lisbon coach was axed earlier this month following a dismal 14-month spell at Old Trafford. Fernandes, 31, was seen meeting with one his former boss’s coaches Carlos Fernandes in the aftermath of Amorim's exit, leading to speculation that he could be angling for his own move away.

But according to BBC Sport, he remains committed to the club and he will stick to his original plan of evaluating his future at the end of his season when he will have just one year remaining on his contract.

Fresh talk over Fernandes’ future comes amid constant suggestions that he could leave the club. The playmaker has been linked with Spanish giants Real Madrid in the past, as well as Saudi side Al-Hilal.

Fernandes snubbed a move to the Middle East last summer but has since admitted that he felt the club were trying to force him out. He said: "From the club I felt it was, 'If you go it's not so bad for us'.

"It hurts me a bit. More than hurting me, it makes me sad. I'm a player that no one can criticise, I'm always available, I always give my best. I could have left in this transfer window, I would have earned much more money.

"I would have won many trophies this season, but I decided not to go, not only for family reasons but because I genuinely love the club."

Fernandes added: "The club wanted me to leave. I told the directors that, I think they didn't have the courage to make that decision because the manager wanted me. But if I said I wanted to leave, even with the manager wanting me to stay, the club would let me."

Fernandes has made 310 appearances for United since joining from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020, scoring 103 goals. He is now set to play for his eighth manager at Old Trafford.

Michael Carrick has been confirmed as the club’s manager until the end of the season, having taken the reins from former teammate Darren Fletcher. He will aim to have a positive start to his second reign in charge as United take on rivals Manchester City on Saturday afternoon.
