Roy Keane not happy with Jonny Evans being ManUtd coach
Manchester United legend Roy Keane is furious with his former club for appointing Jonny Evans as an assistant coach. He believes that the former defender has not done anything to deserve to be a coach at Old Trafford.
Speaking on the Stick To Football podcast, Keane slammed Gary Neville as the former defender backed Michael Carrick's decision to bring in his backroom staff. The Irishman questioned the club's move to hire a loans manager as a first-team coach within weeks of exit and said:
"Jonny Evans leaves Man United, four or five weeks ago, as a loans manager and then Fletch gives him a job. Strangely enough, he gives him a job, has two games, Fletch goes and Carrick gives him a job. Great, isn't it? We should go to Barbados for a week."
Neville was quick to point out that he was only talking about Steve Holland, but Keane was not happy.
"We're praising one of the staffs for his experience, and then we just let the other two go. Jonathan Woodgate and Jonny Evans. What have they what what has Jonny Evans done to be a coach at Man United first team? He left the job four weeks ago as a loans manager and ironically comes back working with the first team. That's a big step up, isn't it?"
When Neville was asked again for his opinion on Evans coming in as a coach, the former defender said he had no idea what the new appointment would do. Keane doubled down on his criticism of the appointment and added:
"You're saying you don't know anything about Johnny Evans coaching cos he's never coached! That's my point. But he's gone into Man United."
Manchester United appointed Michael Carrick as the first-team head coach this month following the sacking of Ruben Amorim. The Red Devils have given him a short-term deal until the end of the season, with the search for a new manager continuing behind the scenes.
Roy Keane not happy with appointments at Manchester United
Roy Keane has said that he is not happy with the appointment of Steve Holland as an assistant coach at Manchester United. He believes that the experience should not be the only focus, as Mike Phelan and Steve McClaren worked with the recent coaches and failed.
Manchester United have been linked with Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel and Xavi in recent days, with Oliver Glasner also said to be in the running for the job. The Red Devils are expected to name their new head coach by the end of the season.
