Man Utd will seriously consider England boss Thomas Tuchel and Marseille head coach Roberto De Zerbi as candidates to be the next permanent manager, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano emphasised that the Red Devils are still early in the recruitment process but both coaches are definitely in the mix:
“Two names guaranteed to be considered by INEOS are Thomas Tuchel and Roberto De Zerbi.”

“Tuchel is fully focused on England and the World Cup, while De Zerbi is doing an excellent job at Olympique Marseille, but both remain appreciated internally.”
“This will be a long process with more names involved, and nothing is expected to happen quickly.”
Tuchel was approached 18 months ago
It is believed that the current England manager held talks with Sir Jim Ratcliffe in Monaco soon after the conclusion of the 2023/24 season.
The meeting took place in June 2024 when Erik ten Hag was still the manager, but Tuchel felt that Ratcliffe wasn’t prepared to offer him the job at the time, so he withdrew from the process.
Ractliffe ultimately decided to keep ten Hag and hand the Dutchman a new contract. That proved to be a mistake as he was sacked just a few months later.
De Zerbi would bring excitement back to Man Utd
The Italian does play an attacking brand of football, which has gained him plenty of admirers, including Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola. For that reason, he would seem a good fit for United.
However, De Zerbi did have a falling out with Brighton owner Tony Bloom in his previous job, and that was reportedly about recruitment. Director of Football Jason Wilcox and CEO Omar Berrada will be keen to avoid a repeat of what happened with Ruben Amorim.
